New to Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) is that the PC app is now available. We learned about its details last week, when Epic Games announced that today it would put the set of tools that the same company uses to create content in Fortnite in the hands of players. UEFN is in public beta and opens the door for players to create all kinds of games and experiences that can be played directly in the version of Fortnite that anyone can have installed. Epic Games has published three example projects: Deserted: Domination, Forest Guardian and The Space Inside.
“Over time, UEFN will evolve to incorporate most of the tools available in Unreal Engine,” explains Epic Games. “UEFN works hand-in-hand with the Fortnite Creative tools, and teams of creators can collaborate across PC and console to develop and test islands in real time.”
To support creators who contribute to Fortnite, Epic Games has launched Creators Economy 2.0, a pay-per-participation program that includes the company itself and a select number of people. Creators who take part in this initiative will share 40% of the net revenue from the Fortnite Item Shop and most real money purchases made in Fortnite on a pro rata basis. The payments are monthly and take into account aspects such as the popularity of the island, the participation and the attraction of new players.
“Pay-to-participation funds are separate from the Support-A-Creator program, and are intended to reward island creators who post content to Fortnite,” Epic Games explains. “In addition, we’ve completely removed the Support a Creator feature from the game, which means creators can focus on building fun and engaging experiences without asking you to use their creator code. So every time you play your favorite island or game in Fortnite, you’ll be financially supporting its creator, no code needed!”
The creators of Fortnite have from today a dedicated portal where they can register and receive information.
