Oct. 28 (Portaltic/EP) –

Elon Muskthe new owner of the social network twitterplans to enable accounts that have received a permanent suspension, including that of former US President Donald Trump.

This Thursday the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, has completed the purchase of the social network Twitter for a value of 44,000 million dollars (a similar figure in euros) and has carried out the dismissal of its main managers.

Musk is also the current CEO of the company, a position he will hold on an interim basis until he finds another person to replace Parag Agrawal, until now the CEO and one of the fired directors, as reported by a person close to this matter to Bloomberg.

One of the first steps I would take would be to enable user accounts that had been permanently suspended, because the manager does not believe in lifetime bans, according to the same source.

One of those accounts is that of the former president of the United States, donald trump Twitter, but also Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, blocked his access to the social network after the publication of a series of incendiary messages during the assault on the Capitol, on January 6, 2021.

With the closing of this purchase, Musk ensures that he has “released the bird“, in reference to the logo of the social network, thus fulfilling what was the main reason why he wanted to acquire Twitter: to promote freedom of expression.

The tycoon has been very critical of the platform’s moderation policies in recent times. Earlier this year he launched a survey of his followers, to whom he reminded that “freedom of expression is essential for a functioning democracy” and asked if they considered Twitter to adhere “rigorously” to this principle.

“Since Twitter functions as a de facto agora, failure to adhere to the principles of free speech fundamentally undermines democracy“, he defended then. Previously, in another survey, he had raised the need for the Twitter algorithm to be open source.

This Thursday, Musk addressed first to advertisersto whom he has assured that he has bought Twitter “because it is important for the future of civilization have a common digital agora, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy way, without resorting to violence”.

He also assured that “there is currently a serious risk that the media will split into the echo chambers of the extreme right and the extreme left that generate more hate and divide our society“. This polarization links it to the search for clicks, which later translate into money.

Although he has also said that this social network “cannot become an infernal pitched battle, where everything can be said without consequences.” To do so, bet on the personalized experience and by advertising “make it as relevant as possible“for user needs.
