Ecuadorian police reinforce their presence in the area where a bus with Spaniards was shot at

Aug. 3 () –

The Ecuadorian National Police has announced a reinforcement of the police deployment in the Posorja area, in the province of Guayas, where a bus with Spanish workers was shot at last Wednesday. No one was injured.

The district police chief, Mauricio Santamaría, explained that the attack took place at around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at a roundabout on the Data-Posorja highway when the workers were being taken to an inn after having worked on the maintenance of a tuna boat, reports the Ecuadorian newspaper ‘El Telégrafo’.

An armed individual fired from a motorcycle at the bodywork and windscreen of the vehicle with the intention of forcing the driver to stop. However, the driver made an evasive maneuver and continued to avoid the assault, according to Santamaría.

“The criminal proceeded to shoot at the bus, both at the windshield and the bodywork, but the driver continued with his maneuver and accelerated. The criminal, seeing that he could not carry out his task, disappeared,” he said.

Santamaría has confirmed that no one was injured and that no formal complaint has been filed so far. There are still no clues as to who is believed to have fired the shots.

The area where the incident occurred is an abandoned and poorly lit area, so the hypothesis being considered is that the attack was planned, he explained.

For the time being, Spanish citizens remain sheltered in a restricted area.
