This international course is part of the FIO Regional Training Program and seeks to strengthen knowledge and technical skills of members of human rights defense institutions in the Ibero-American region.
Along these lines, ECLAC training focused on the “Escazú Agreement on access to information, public participation and access to justice in environmental matters for Latin America and the Caribbean” and on the “Conditions necessary for “sustainable and inclusive management of mining activity.” More than 100 attendees from various Ombudsmen’s Offices and National Human Rights Institutes in the region participated during both classes. Of the total participants, more than half (around 60%) were women.
Prior to participating in this high-level course, ECLAC organized, together with FIO, and with the support of GIZ, the Workshop “Environmental Democracy and Mining in Latin America and the Caribbean”, held on April 25, 2024 at ECLAC Headquarters in the framework of the Third Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP3) of the Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters in Latin America and the Caribbean (Escazú Agreement).
