ECLAC specialists inaugurate prospective analysis workshop for Guatemalan public officials

Specialists from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) inaugurated on Monday, April 10, 2023 in Guatemala City, the Prospective Analysis workshop whose main objective is to strengthen the capacities of the professional team of the Directorate of Strategic Analysis of the Development (DAED) of the Secretariat of Planning and Programming (SEGEPLAN) of the Presidency of the Republic of Guatemala, in order to contribute to the preparation of the General Government Policy 2024-2027.

The workshop, in which 16 professionals participated, was inaugurated by the Undersecretary for Strategic Analysis of Guatemala, Manuel Augusto Alonso, and the Director of the DAED, Roberto Monroy. On behalf of ILPES/CEPAL, the specialist Carlos Sandoval participated.

In his opening remarks, Undersecretary Alonso highlighted the support provided by ILPES to SEGEPLAN since 2016 in training foresight capabilities, supporting the National Development Plan KĀ¢atun Nuestra Guatemala 2032 and the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

“This accompaniment has remained and has been consolidated, allowing this workshop today to have the potential to contribute to defining the guiding framework of the future General Government Policy,” he said.

For his part, Director Monroy invited his team to take advantage of this instance to validate their prospective exercises, resolve doubts and reflect together on the best possible proposal that contributes to the elaboration of the General Government Policy and, ultimately, to the future development of the country.

Finally, Carlos Sandoval mentioned the importance of knowing the experience of the countries in the institutionalization of foresight as SEGEPLAN does, which makes said discipline a continuous activity that complements and nourishes the planning processes.

The Prospective Analysis workshop will be held until Friday, April 14. Each day the participants will update their knowledge in prospective and work on their prospective analysis reports of the 10 National Development Priorities.

This technical assistance is part of the activities of the project “Resilient and inclusive public management systems for sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean” of the United Nations Development Account.
