Do you have a new mobile and do not want to lose WhatsApp conversations? So you can migrate data between Android and iOS

July 23 (Portaltic/EP) –

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging applications, present for both Android and iOS, which makes it easy to conversation history migration between one operating system and another when the user launches a phone now that the implementation of this transfer system has been completed.

Meta’s app now lets you transfer chat history and other data from an Android mobile to an iPhone, after incorporating data migration from iOS to Android last year. In the latter case, it is available for Samsung, Pixel phones and new devices with the Android 12 launch version.

Although it does not support call history or display name, it does allow transfer account information, profile photo, individual and group chats, chat history, media files and settings.

The system follows the same procedure whether the migration is performed from Android to iOS or from iOS to Android, although there may be slight differences, since an operating system’s own ‘app’ may be needed to support the migration.

FROM ANDROID TO IOS

To start the Android to iOS migration process It must be clear that the Android phone is the one that the user has already used, and it works, at least, with version 5.0 Lollipop. In it you have to install the ‘app’ named ‘Move to iOS’.

The iPhone where the data will be transferred must be new (or failing that, you must proceed to restore the factory settings in a used one), with the iOS version 15.5 or later installed.

The process also requires the phone number is the same in both devices (the SIM already inserted in the new one), that are connected to a power source already the same Wi-Fi network.

To perform data migration, the user has to open the ‘Move to iOS’ ‘app’ on the Android device. After following some instructions, the iPhone phone will display a code on the screen that must be entered into the Android mobile.

Once the code has been entered, the iPhone will create a temporary WiFi network to which the user must also join the Android mobile. Then, a series of options for the data to be transferred will appear on the screen. In this case, you have to choose WhatsApp.

The data transfer will start at that time. The user does not have to do anything else until the progress bar seen on the iPhone screen is finished. To finish, you just have to click on the Done button on Android and then on Continue on iOS.

FROM IPHONE TO ANDROID

It is the same process, but in the opposite direction, that is, the old phone is iPhone and the new one (or with the factory settings restored) to which we want to transfer our WhatsApp history, an Android one. The convenient thing is to perform this migration when we turn on the Samsung or another brand new Android for the first time.

The highlight is that depending on the phone model, one application or another must be installed on the mobile. On Samsung devices (since Android 10) this is ‘Samsung Smart Switch’, and on Pixel or other Android, the ‘Data Restore Tool’ of Google. And as a novelty, a USB-C to Lightning cable (or equivalent adapters).

The Samsung mobile must be on at all times and connected with the cable to the iPhone from which it will receive the data. ‘Samsung Smart Switch’ will guide the process until requesting the use of the iPhone’s camera to scan a QR code that will appear on the new Android phone. Then you will have to press the ‘Start’ button on iPhone.

While the part of the process is being carried out on the iPhone, the Samsung terminal can be configured until it reaches the home screen, where we can install and open WhatsApp and log in with the same phone number. The messaging ‘app’ itself will request data import.

If we are trying to transfer data on a Pixel or other Android mobile, ‘Data Restore Tool’ allows us to migrate data between devices via cable or a cloud storage service. You will also need to scan the QR code with the old iPhone to complete the process.

TO CONSIDER

The data migration process itself it is more laborious than difficultsince we have to be aware of independent ‘apps’ to do it, that we have already inserted the SIM with the same number in the new terminal, that the two phones are linked (by WiFi in one case and by cable, in the other), among other things.

It should be remembered that once the data transfer is complete, and we check that all the chats, files and other information are present on the new mobile, the data will still be on the old mobile, so you have to delete it and remove the ‘app’ from there, especially if we are going to sell or transfer the mobile to another person.
