Díaz will ask the Corps this afternoon to urgently process the reduction of the working day

If the request is accepted, the measure could reach the Council of Ministers in two weeks, according to Labor calculations.

Jan. 15 () –

The Minister of Economy, Carlos Body, will meet again this Wednesday with the second vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, to continue negotiations on the reduction of the working day, a meeting in which the Ministry of Labor hopes that Economy to rule on processing this measure urgently, as confirmed by Economy and Labor sources to Europa Press.

These same sources have indicated that the request was made by the Minister of Economy to the second vice president this Wednesday and that they have agreed to meet this afternoon to follow up on the negotiations between both ministries that began last Monday and after which they agreed to continue. meeting to negotiate the reduction of the working day to 37.5 hours in 2025.

Sources from the Ministry of Labor have assured Europa Press that they hope at this meeting that the Economy will give an answer on whether or not they accept to urgently process the reduction in working hours, to meet the deadlines and for this measure to see the light of day in 2025.

If Economy agreed to process the reduction in working time urgently, the measure could reach the Council of Ministers in approximately two weeks, according to Labor calculations.

In this way, the “veto” that Yolanda Díaz has denounced that the Ministry led by Carlos Body is doing on the measure, by not allowing it to be processed urgently, would be unblocked. If it is not processed urgently, Labor sources have warned that the reduction in working hours will not see the light of day in 2025, so that one of the agreements of the coalition government between PSOE and Sumar would be breached.

This blockade that the head of Labor has denounced would be taking place through the Government Delegate Commission for Economic Affairs (Cdgae), the body where the issues that reach the Council of Ministers are decided and examined.

According to a document to which Europa Press had access, the Cdgae refused to incorporate the text of the reduction of the working day in the commission of January 13, alleging that the economic significance of the measure and the involvement of other ministries makes the matter must be processed in the ordinary procedure and by a working group of the commission. In this way, it would be preventing it from being processed urgently and lengthening the deadlines, according to the Labor complaint.

Likewise, the document indicates that the issue could be requested for the Delegated Commission on the 27th, although it does not clarify whether it will be done or not.

Regarding these accusations, Minister Carlos Body “completely” denied the blockade and assured that his Ministry is giving “absolute priority” to the processing of the project to reduce working hours, but that it is being done with “all the necessary guarantees.” .

The Ministry led by Yolanda Díaz calculates that if the measure is not processed urgently and the ordinary route is used, the text would not reach, in the best of cases, the Council of Ministers until after the summer, further delaying its arrival at the Congress of Deputies, which could cause it not to go ahead at the end of the year.
