“We have been in talks for several months with the Secretary of Economy, (Raquel) Buenrostro, they are offering us 10-hectare polygons in the southeast area with tax benefits to establish plants in that part of the country.”
But the arrival of industries in that region represents a series of needs such as infrastructure, energy, water and talent, issues that are already being worked on, says the president of Index.
“This coming six-year term and with the new administration, with Dr. Claudia, I believe that in that six-year period that area of the southeast of the country will already be functioning. Her strategy is very open. We have had several meetings with her work team, with Altagracia (Gómez), who is the one coordinating the communication with the businessmen.”
Although it has been mentioned that this region of the country is not so attractive because it is not close to the border with the United States, this is not entirely true, according to Martínez Cantú, the movement of goods by ship to the neighboring country does not take that long.
He says that, for example, in the case of Yucatan, some manufacturing industries have been established for export, and the transfer of finished products in containers by ship from that state to Florida takes only 48 hours.
“We started more than 50 years ago, in the north of the country, where we brought companies from the United States and the rest of the world. Then we went to the center of the country, and now we also have foreign investments in Yucatan.” In this context, Index’s mission is to bring exporting companies to the south-southeast region as well.
So far, 12 development poles have been defined in the southeast, Sheinbaum has mentioned that 10 more will be launched.
