Cimic, belonging to the Spanish group ACS, announced this Wednesday that its subsidiaries Sedgman and CPB Contractors have been selected by BHP to carry out a major engineering and construction project in Western Australia. This ambitious project will generate revenues of 757 million Australian dollars (502 million US dollars or 464 million euros) for Cimic.
The project, located about 21 kilometers from the remote town of Newman, will begin next May and consists of offering comprehensive solutions for the design and construction of a new primary crusher with a capacity of 30 million tons per year. This system will include a 12 kilometer overland conveyor, a radial stacker and associated stacking systems, all with a capacity of 30 million tonnes per year.
Over the past 12 months, Sedgman and CPB Contractors have worked closely with BHP to advance the engineering, design and long-term advance procurement of the project. Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of May 2024.

Construction is expected to be completed and ready to begin production in the first quarter of fiscal 2027.

This announcement comes at a time when ACS announced having earned €177 million (US$191.5 million) in the first quarter of the year, an increase of 8.4% over the previous year. Activities in the United States accounted for 57% of the group’s sales, while Australia and Spain contributed 19% and 10%, respectively.
Focused on construction and engineering businesses, Cimic encompasses companies such as CPB Contractors, Broad Construction, Sedgman, Leighton Asia and UGL. The company has important projects in Australia in the development of renewable energy, digital infrastructure and sustainable transportation, among others.
