() — Chris Rock shared that he has been asked to host the Oscars again next year, after his colleague Will Smith slapped him at the ceremony last March while announcing an award.
Rock, who previously hosted the Academy Awards in 2005 and 2016, revealed the news during a comedy show in Phoenix on Sunday, according to reports. Arizona Republic.
Rock allegedly told attendees that he turned down that invitation, as well as the one to participate in a Super Bowl commercial. And he added that the slap he received from Smith “hurt.”
“He’s bigger than me,” Rock said. “The state of Nevada would not approve of a fight between myself and Will Smith.”

Smith walked onto the Oscars stage and slapped Rock after Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife’s shaved head. Jada Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia, an autoimmune condition that can lead to her hair loss.
Smith was banned from Academy-related events for 10 years and the actor has apologized. In a video he posted last month, he said he was “deeply sorry” for the incident.
“I contacted Chris and the message I got is that he’s not ready to talk and when he is, he will,” Smith said. “Then I’m telling you, Chris, I apologize. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here when you’re ready to talk.”
