April 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of China, Xi Jinping, witnessed this Friday the ceremony for the creation of the Information Support Force, a new branch of the Chinese People's Liberation Army that will allow it to modernize and strengthen its cyber capabilities.
The Chinese leader has highlighted that this initiative has been an “important” decision taken within the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party to strengthen the Army, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
China has thus ended the Strategic Support Force, created in 2015 to confront space, cyber, political and electronic warfare. The Information Support Force will report directly to the Central Military Commission (CMC).
The shakeup comes after the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand accused China last month of carrying out “malicious” cyber activities against democratic institutions in these countries.
