First modification:
Chile makes a new attempt to draft a second constitutional proposal, after the population rejected the text drafted by a constituent assembly elected by universal suffrage in September 2022.

This time the rules change: a committee of experts, a citizen council and a technical committee will be in charge of drafting a new Constitution for the country.
And it is the committee of experts that opens the ball today. It is a mixed group, made up of 24 members: many lawyers, law doctors and sociologists, all of them appointed by the political parties a few weeks ago.
This Monday the investiture ceremony takes place in Santiago. This commission has three months to prepare a preliminary text. These experts will have a key role: they will have to draft a draft Constitution that will then be modified, debated and voted on for five months by a council made up of citizens elected by the population.
Chilean disinterest
This commission of experts is far from being unanimous and some of its members are highly criticized. One of them is being investigated for corruption, another is accused of having supported a pedophile criminal in the past.
In general terms, Chileans, who are very suspicious of the political class, deplore the fact that this time it is the one at the forefront of drafting the new Constitution.
And after three years of fruitless discussions, the population now seems disinterested in this second process. However, they will have to vote again in a mandatory referendum at the end of the year.
