First days of January and in the technological world that means one thing, CES starts. Although these are bad dates for Spaniards because they fall during the week of Three Kings, this great event gives rise to starting the year with a highlight.
We have already discussed some of the things expected for CES, but there is a lot to unpack about what we expect to see and that will surely set the trend this year, because guess what, artificial intelligence will continue to give something to talk about.
But the CES is relevant for the products that are presented, not so much for the general trends in technology.
What we can take for granted is that artificial intelligence will no longer be something new, but rather another function that will be integrated into everything. Mobile phones with AI? We already have them. AI glasses? Seen. Cars with AI? You are late. AI, AI and more AI integrated into absolutely everything.
Processor renewal: Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA… and surprise in mini PCs
Like every year, CES is used to launch a battalion of hardware updates on equipment, especially laptops.
It is expected that Intel, AMD, NVIDIA and the newcomer Qualcomm will release updates to laptop processors. In addition, major equipment manufacturers often use CES to launch their computers that will hit stores in the first quarter of the year.
The surprise this year may be the arrival of Qualcomm to the mini PC market, a market that has exploded in recent years and was dominated by computers with mid-range Intel processors, although mini PCs with powerful processors have increasingly been seen. , like the Geekom GT1 Mega that uses an Intel Core U9 185H from the Meteor Lake range.
This same brand, Geekom, has already published (although it had escaped them before) the first indications are that they will launch a device with a Snapdragon Geekom QS1. This will take Mini PCs to an era where, in addition to being compact, they will say goodbye to the fans that have to be activated because in such a small space they tend to heat up quickly in high-performance tasks.
It is to be hoped that more computer manufacturers will begin to opt for mini PCs with a Qualcomm chip, since it is the easiest to integrate as it has lower energy consumption and uses fewer fans, which can be annoying in some cases. situations.
Of course, we must expect renewal of Intel and AMD chips, but also new graphics cards from NVIDIA, as the arrival of RTX 5060 in laptops has already been leaked.
The car is no longer a car, it is a computer
For several years now, the CES has become one of the most important events for the automotive sector. Not to launch new cars on the market, but to indicate to the world that cars are no longer automobiles, but entertainment systems and computers with artificial intelligence in search of the car that drives itself.
The main global car manufacturers are expected to show their innovations in terms of self-driving systems, but also entertainment and where the automobile of the future is heading technologically.
But we cannot forget the elephant in the room, China. Chinese electric car manufacturers are very interested in entering Western markets and we are increasingly seeing more cars from these brands on the roads of Europe, as is the case with BYD that has already become a leader in several countries.
In the wake of Apple Vision Pro, a CES where the first competitors can be shown
This cannot be a surprise, especially since last December Google and Samsung presented their answer to the Apple Vision Pro to the world.
Hopefully Samsung will show more data and some demos of its augmented reality headset that will work with Android XR. The code name is Project Moohan, although it will probably end up being called something like Samsung Galaxy XR Pro or something like that, in the purest style of naming from Samsung.
We know that Asus and Lenovo are also preparing augmented reality viewers with Horizon OS, Meta’s operating system for this field of technology, although it is unknown if these products will finally be present at CES.
Smart glasses as an everyday product
Meta has created a viral product with its Goal Wayfarer in collaboration with Ray Ban. These sunglasses with cameras, microphone and speaker are increasingly similar to Ray Ban’s original legendary Wayfarer, adding functions with artificial intelligence.
We can expect to see a flood of these types of glasses at CES for one simple reason: they’re trendy. Also because the manufacturing cost has had to plummet with the success of the Meta ones, in addition to the fact that there is a real interest in this type of glasses with a camera to take photos and videos and upload them to your social networks.
Smart glasses can only be differentiated in price and design, since few will opt for adding functions such as a screen as it is an expensive system that adds a lot of weight and space to the glasses, as we could see with TCL’s RayNeo.
