Cameron Diaz didn’t think she’d ever make another movie, until Jamie Foxx called.
Díaz revealed how she spent the last 10 years out of the spotlight before returning to performing with Foxx’s “Back in Action.”
“I didn’t follow any type of training,” the 52-year-old actress said in a video shared by “Still Watching Netflix.”
“I didn’t make anything public. “I said no to everything except my wine.”
During his hiatus from Hollywood, Díaz founded his own wine company, Avaline.
“That’s what I focused more on,” Díaz explained, “if I did something more than just being a mother and living my day to day life.”
The “Charlie’s Angels” star revealed what prompted her to return to acting after a decade out of the spotlight.
Díaz made 38 films in 20 years. She is known for her roles in “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “There’s Something About Mary,” “My Sister’s Keeper,” “Shrek,” “The Other Woman,” and many other films.
“I didn’t think I was going to make another movie,” he admitted. “I was perfectly happy, you know, just living my life doing other things. You know, like day in and day out, not movies. And then I get a phone call from Jamie Foxx. And how can you say no to Jamie Foxx when he says, ‘Hey, I’ve got this great action comedy that we can have a ton of fun in.’
“If there’s anyone I’m going to go back and spend months on set with, having fun and laughing, it would be Jamie.”
Diaz revealed in an interview in October that nothing could have changed her mind about her decision to leave Hollywood. She stopped acting in 2014 to focus on building a life with her husband Benji Madden.
“I felt like the right thing for me to do was get my own life back, and I didn’t really care about anything else,” the actress said during an appearance at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit, according to E! News.
“No opinion from anyone, no success from anyone, no offer from anyone, nothing from anyone could change my mind about my decision to take care of myself and build the life I really wanted to have. I think it’s really about what are you passionate about? For me, it was building my family.”
The film, “Back in Action,” which fueled Diaz’s comeback as an actor, was delayed due to Foxx’s health scare in 2023 and is now scheduled to premiere Jan. 17 on Netflix.
Diaz appeared on the red carpet alongside Foxx on January 15 in Germany to promote the film.
He admitted that he “couldn’t say no” to Foxx in what would end up being their third project together after starring in “Annie” and “Any Given Sunday.”
However, it was not easy to change from mother to Hollywood star.
“We were home for a long time, which was amazing,” Diaz said at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit, describing her time away from the industry.
“So I had to push myself. My husband is simply the best. He said: ‘You’ve been supporting us and building the family.’ And supporting him in his businesses. He says, ‘It’s time we support you and let mom step up and do her thing.'”
