Microsoft finalized the purchase of Activision Blizzard for a multi-million dollar sum and put the entire video game industry on alert. Sony, for its part, has shown its annoyance because they could make the decision to make the Call of Duty saga an exclusive for the Xbox Series X and PC console. However, Microsoft has never referred to it and has cleared up certain doubts with the latest agreement it has closed with Nintendo.
The Nintendo Switch console does not have as much power to run certain triple A games that are successful in sales on other platforms, such as PS5 and Xbox Series X. However, it seems that this will change in the following years.
Brad Smith, Vice President of Microsoft, announced that Microsoft has closed an agreement with Nintendo to release the following shooter titles on the Japanese company’s consoles for the next 10 years. “We have now signed a binding 10-year contract to bring Xbox games to Nintendo gamers. This is just part of our commitment to bring Xbox games and Activision titles like Call of Duty to more players on more platforms.”, detailed the manager on his social networks.
“Microsoft and Nintendo have negotiated and signed a 10-year binding legal agreement to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo gamers, same day as Xbox, with full feature and content parity, so they can experience Call of Duty the way it was meant to be. Xbox and PlayStation gamers do. Enjoy Call of Duty. We are committed to providing long-term equitable access to Call of Duty for other gaming platforms, providing more choice to more players and more competition in the gaming market,” the official statement read.
Of course, Call of Duty might not be the only Activision Blizzard game that could be on the horizon for the Nintendo Switch. The Japanese company now has a new franchise that will make its consoles more attractive.
Nintendo Switch 2 on the way?
Given this news, rumors of a big announcement that Nintendo would have pending for its half-year conference (the most important) have returned. It would not be unreasonable to think that the Nintendo Switch 2 or a desktop console with much more power to run Call of Duty and perhaps Diablo 4 would be announced.
We will have to wait for the Nintendo Direct within the framework of E3 2023 to find out Nintendo’s plans for the following years.
