Building bridges between Escazú and Open Government

Goals:

  • Generate synergies between the open government community and the environmental community with a view to articulating actions that allow collaboration, dialogue and learning between officials, civil society organizations and experts from the region.
  • Discuss challenges and strategies for the implementation of public policies linked to the Agreement from the perspectives of government and civil society.
  • Promote the exchange of experiences from the adoption of commitments linked to the implementation of the Escazú Agreement in the open government action plans that the countries present to the OGP and inspire peers in the region in the implementation of transparency reforms and participation that contribute to the effective implementation of the Agreement.
  • Promote dialogue based on the use of networks, multi-stakeholder forums, and institutional resources of OGP and those of other stakeholders in the open government community to accelerate and promote effective implementation of the Agreement.

Event format: Face-to-face – Workshop in circular dialogue tables with initial presentations in full – face-to-face activity open to the public

Context: Within the framework of the Conference of the Parties to the Escazú Agreement to be held in the City of Buenos Aires, the Open Government Alliance (OGP), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Universidad Hemisferios (Ecuador ) organize the workshop “Building Bridges between Escazú and Open Government”, an associated event that will take place on Friday, April 21 at 9:00 a.m. at the Hotel Libertador (Av. Córdoba 690), headquarters of the COP. The workshop convenes government representatives, public institutions, civil society, parliaments, academia, and other stakeholders to exchange experiences and reflect on the challenges and opportunities for the effective implementation of the Escazú Agreement within the framework of the open government platform.
