There are many optical tools in the world, which are used daily for the optimization of large industrial processes and also in everyday life. Currently, this number of applications is increasing for different applications in different areas of science.
To talk about this, is that the Student chapter of the Society of Optics and Photonics (OSA) of the University of Concepción“Lihuen”, together with the support of the Science League, the Science and Technology Committee, the Faculty of Engineering and the Civil Engineering in Telecommunications career, all from the UdeC, have organized the Workshop entitled “Optics without borders” .
One of the topics that this activity will cover is related to optical instruments used to observe different conditions of the ocean, such as its oxygen level, fluorescence and turbidity. Very relevant aspects to know the different conditions that some marine areas can present, for example, the Atacama Trench. To discuss this topic, Dr. Victor Villagranhead of the MidGeo Laboratory at the University of Concepción.
On the other hand, Dr. Alex Alvaradoacademic at the Eindhoven University of Technology and Dr. Gabriel Saavedrabelonging to the optoelectronics laboratory of the University of Concepción, will present on the growing activity of exchange and transmission of information worldwide, carried out mainly through optical networks, where the study of fibers and optical communications play a leading role.
Another of the interesting talks that this workshop will have will deal with intelligent microscopy for the analysis of pollen and adulterated honey, a project led by Dr. John Paul Staforelli. Quantum computing will also be addressed with Dr. Aldo Delgadodirector of the Millennium Institute for Research in Optics (MIRO) and Optical-chemical methods and multivariate data analysis for applications in Biotechnology and analytical sciences with Dr. Rosario Castillodirector of the Center for Biotechnology.
Ferdinand CastilloPhD student in Electrical Engineering and part of the organizing team, points out that having research on such varied topics serves as “a meeting point between these areas of optics and allows us to learn about the different advances in this matter.”
the workshop “Optics without borders” is free, open to the entire community and does not require prior registration. It will be held on July 19 from 9:00 am, in the Salvador Gálvez auditorium of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Concepción.
