MADRID 23 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, emphasized this Wednesday from Riyadh to the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohamed bin Salmán, the importance of ending the war in the Gaza Strip and releasing the hostages held by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
“They discussed efforts toward a diplomatic resolution in Lebanon that would allow civilians on both sides of the Blue Line to return to their homes,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement.
Likewise, both have discussed the “need to establish lasting regional stability, including through greater integration between the countries of the region”, in reference to the ‘Abraham Accords’ on the normalization of relations between Israel and the Arab countries.
During his visit to Riyadh, the US Secretary of State also met with the Saudi Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farhan, with whom he discussed the situation in Gaza and Lebanon, according to the state news agency SPA.
Blinken landed in Israel on Tuesday, where he met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior officials. The US Secretary of State had planned to travel to Jordan on a second stop on his eleventh regional tour since the outbreak of the conflict, although he landed this Wednesday in Saudi Arabia.
Before leaving Israel, the US envoy has asked that Israeli forces turn “their military successes” in Gaza into “lasting strategic successes” and has insisted on the need for the response to Iran’s latest attacks not to provoke “expansion.” of the conflict in the Middle East.
