Biden asserts that the US Army would defend Taiwan in the event of an "unprecedented attack"

Sep. 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has asserted this Sunday that the US Army would defend Taiwan in case it suffered an “unprecedented attack” at a time when China’s air raids on the island are increasing.

The president has granted an interview to the US network CBS in which, questioned about whether the United States would help Taiwan militarily, he has assured that the Army would help the island “if there were an unprecedented attack.”

Along the same lines, Biden has reaffirmed the position of the United States regarding the independence of Taiwan. Washington supports the ‘one China’ policy while maintaining trade and military relations with Taiwan.

“We agree with what we signed a long time ago (…) We do not move, we do not encourage them to be independent,” said the US president.

The latest political maneuvers of the United States regarding Taiwan have aroused criticism from China, in fact, the visit to the island of the president of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, was responded by Beijing with the organization of a series of military maneuvers in the Taiwan Strait.

The air raids of the Chinese Armed Forces on the island have multiplied in recent times, something that raises fears in Washington about a possible Chinese military operation on the island, which they consider to be part of their territory.
