Patricio Diez Bonilla was the general director of Compartamos Banco until last September, when Manuel Romo, director of Banamex, invited him to join his work team and Patricio saw an opportunity that he could not miss.

“Much of what I had done at Compartamos are many of the challenges that we are experiencing (in Banamex): taking the company to become public, transforming it, doing transformation strategy issues. I feel like I am in a 140-year-old startup,” he said. in interview.

The banker points out that one of the main tasks is to make the business operation more efficient through the bank’s processes.

“We have to work on maintaining all the legacy systems that a 140-year-old institution has but, hand in hand, evolve them to have a more flexible, more dynamic architecture, which allows us to bring products to the market in a more agile and that also allows us to be more efficient in how we distribute our products,” he added.

Sinead O’Connor, Corporate Director of Consumer Banking

Sinead O’Connor will be responsible for creating strategies so that the bank’s consumer credit continues to grow and in the first quarter of the year the bank will be relaunched to continue attracting customers.

“What we are looking for for this new Banamex is to reconnect in general with the country, with society, with its companies and with all people,” he said in an interview.

O’Connor’s strategy will also be focused on increasing the customer base, especially younger ones. “We believe that the relevance going forward is going to be very close to the new generations and we are going to put a lot of focus there. So, a lot of the strategy is going to go into reaching new audiences and having a broader customer base in general” , he highlighted.

Banamex’s credit portfolio suffered a slowdown between 2019 and 2021, so the strategy of maintaining agreements such as the one the bank has with Ocesa and Blackrock will be essential to continue complementing the product offering.

Luis Kuri, general director of Banamex Afore

The Afore Banamex is the third largest by number of workers and the fourth by number of assets. Luis Kuri’s task will be to raise awareness among all people, especially young people, about saving for retirement with advice from the Financial Group.

“Human beings by nature are not used to thinking about the future, we think very short-term. So, the first challenge is to make people aware of the importance of voluntary savings and the importance and value of investing today, saving a peso today versus doing it in 10 years,” he highlighted.

Luis Kuri points out that in the coming months a plan will be deployed so that people are aware of saving voluntarily.

“We are taking advantage of the synergies of the financial group to make it much easier for our clients to think about the future and to do so in a selfless manner. We are also thinking about alternatives to bring savings closer to our clients through all the products we have in the financial group, but we do it consistently, permanently and every time we advise one of our clients we always offer them voluntary savings via direct debit,” said Kuri.
