() — As has often happened throughout his peerless career, James Cameron made film history again this weekend. The long-awaited sequel to him “Avatar: The way of water” has already grossed more than US $ 2,000 million worldwide, according to reports Deadline.
That grand total comes after the film’s box office this weekend, the sixth consecutive weekend the film has held the No. 1 spot since its December release.
has contacted the film’s producing studio, Disney, for comment on the film’s latest financial achievement.
“Avatar: The Way of Water” is the sequel to “Avatar,” Cameron’s 2009 alien epic, which continues to top the list of highest-grossing films of all time, according to Box Office Mojo.
Another of Cameron’s films is also in the $2 billion club: 1997’s “Titanic.” Only three other films are in that club: 2015’s “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens,” Avengers: Infinity War” from 2018, and “Avengers: Endgame” from a year later.
Cameron is thus the only director who can boast that three of his films are among the six that have grossed more than $2 billion, as well as in the top 6 highest-grossing films of all time.
The director plans to release at least three more “Avatar” sequels in the future.
