Despite the fact that Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was announced four years ago, during all this time Nintendo has been very reserved when it comes to showing the title, and even the press previews have not contributed much regarding what we are told. taught Eiji Aonuma, producer of The Legend of Zelda franchise, in a gameplay of 10 minutes. Even the history of the title is largely a mystery, something that will be appreciated by those who do not want to know more than necessary and want to enjoy the campaign in its entirety. In this sense, the leaks have made things difficult.
“Embark on a perilous mission to find the missing princess and uncover the source of the shocking event that has thrown Hyrule into chaos,” reads the Tears of the Kingdom synopsis. “Follow your own path through the vast landscapes of Hyrule and the strange islands that float above.” We can say little more about the game’s history without going into the speculation that the game’s trailers have given rise to. In them we have seen Link and Zelda in dungeons, the return of characters like Sidon and Makeela Riju as well as the presence of Ganondorf, the eternal antagonist of the franchise.
What we have much clearer are the novelties at the playable level and here the keywords are design and build. To complete his journey through Hyrule, Link will have new abilities that will allow players to unleash his imagination starting with Combine, which will allow objects to be merged to create weapons with all kinds of effects. “[…] you can do everything,” Aonuma said during a gameplay shown in March. Another novelty is the ultramano, an ability to attach objects that allows you to build vehicles, including a raft to overcome large rivers or land and air vehicles. Using both abilities creatively will be one of the keys to the gameplay of Tears of the Kingdom.
To combine and ultramano, two skills that will be very useful for exploration as well as for combat and puzzle solving, they will be joined by infiltration and retreat. The infiltration allows Link to exit through the roof of any structure (a cave, a building…), while the recoil stops a target and sends them back in the opposite direction. This is useful both for sending back projectiles from enemies and for reaching the floating islands that grace the sky of Hyrule.
For amiibo collectors, the Link amiibo (Tears of the Kingdom) has also been put on sale today, which once scanned grants weapons and materials, as well as special cloth for Link’s parasail. Additionally, existing The Legend of Zelda series amiibo can be scanned to obtain useful materials, weapons, or parasail cloth inspired by the amiibo in question.
