Authorities from the region will discuss the challenges for the transformation of the institutionality of development planning

Government representatives will address the challenges for the transformation of development planning and the current and new demands for training in the region, among other topics, during the Thirtieth Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Regional Planning Council (CRP) of the Latin American Institute and of the Caribbean of Economic and Social Planning (ILPES) that will be held on November 27 and 28, 2024 at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile.

The meeting will be inaugurated on Wednesday, November 27, at 9:00 Chilean time (GMT-3), by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of ECLAC, and Pável Isa, Minister of Economy, Planning and Development of the Dominican Republic, in his capacity as President of the CRP of the ILPES.

Subsequently, José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs will present the main conclusions of the position document prepared by ECLAC for its 40th session entitled Latin America and the Caribbean facing development traps: essential transformations and how to manage them.

Pável Isa, meanwhile, will present for the consideration of the Board of Directors a document titled Guidelines for the development of a regional agenda for the governance of planning and public management for sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

During the meeting, two thematic panels will be held, reports on activities and the ILPES-ECLAC work program will be presented, and the preparations for the XX Meeting of the Regional Planning Council, scheduled for the second half of 2025, will be reported.

The Board of Directors of the CRP of the ILPES, made up of the Dominican Republic (in the Presidency), Brazil, Chile, Dominica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Jamaica and Peru, meets every two years to review the progress of the work and compliance with the agreements adopted by the Regional Planning Council, the main intergovernmental body that guides the activities of the ECLAC Institute.

In this context, on Friday, November 29, the Collaborative Governance Seminar as a tool for sustainable development will be held, organized by ECLAC (through ILPES), CAF-Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, the Spanish Cooperation Agency International for Development (AECID), the Laboratory of the Government of Chile and Southern Affairs.
