At least three people have died and several are unaccounted for due to heavy rains since Monday in various parts of Sri Lanka, where thousands of people have had to be evacuated to ensure their safety.
The Disaster Management Center has indicated that 3,046 people from more than 600 families have had to be moved to safe areas, while some 25 houses have been damaged due to rainfall and adverse weather conditions.
The Central Province is the most affected, with at least three deaths in the Nuwara Eliya district, according to information from the Times Online news portal. The authorities have also indicated that 2,784 people have been displaced in this area alone.
Ratnapura district in Sabaragamuwa province has also been severely affected. The authorities expect the rains to continue for the next few days and have asked the population to remain alert.
