Madrid 10 Feb. (Europa Press) –
China’s authorities have reported Monday that at least one person has died and another 28 people continue to miss due to landslide that took place over the weekend in the town of Jinping, near Yibin, in the province of Sichuan , located in the south of the country.
Rescue teams have indicated in press statements that there are “great challenges” when carrying out the relevant work due to low temperatures and bad weather conditions. Thus, they have explained that access to the area is minimal and there is a danger that a second landslide occurs because of heavy rains.
In this sense, they have confirmed the presence of at least two injured and those evacuated so far, which already have a temporary shelter, according to information collected by the Chinese news agency Xinhua.
The landslide, which took place around noon on Saturday (local time) in Yunlian County, has buried a dozen housing, many of them with occupants inside. These types of incidents are common in mountainous areas of southwest China, especially after strong snowfalls or rainfall are registered.
The Chinese president, Xi Jinping, has ordered the statement of the maximum alert level to accelerate the search and rescue efforts of the victims, a measure that arrives approximately one year after another land shift left more than 30 dead in the province from Yunnan.
