At least four dead in an ambush against the Army in Mali

15 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least four soldiers have been killed and three more wounded in an ambush against a military convoy in Kwala, on the outskirts of Bamako, the country’s capital.

The attack was perpetrated around 9:30 a.m. near the town of Kolokani, about 100 kilometers from Bamako, according to the Malijet news portal. The ambush has also left two damaged military vehicles.

Although this armed attack has not been claimed by any group, it could be the work of the affiliate of the Al Qaeda group in Mali. The Support Group for Islam and Muslims (JNIM) also has a presence in the country.

Mali and the rest of the Sahel countries have experienced an upsurge in violence, both jihadist at the hands of groups linked to Al Qaeda and the Islamic State, and inter-communal in nature, which has led France and the G5 Sahel countries — Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger– to increase their operations.
