July 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least five people have died when a building collapsed in the Cameroonian city of Douala, in the east of the country, although rescue workers fear that the number of fatalities will increase in the coming hours since there are more than a dozen people trapped in the rubble.
The incident occurred around 01:00 in the morning this Sunday in the Ange Raphael neighborhood, when a four-story building collapsed for reasons still under investigation — although residents denounced the serious deterioration of the building, reports the portal Mimi Mefo.
“There are still people trapped in there. That building had huge cracks long before today’s incident,” according to the portal’s sources, on condition of anonymity.
Both the Police and the Gendarmerie have been at the site for hours to supervise the debris removal tasks.
