LAGOS, 5 Jan. (DPA/EP) –
At least 18 people, including several children, have died this Thursday after registering a traffic accident in northern Nigeria involving a bus and a truck, according to a local official.
The bus, which authorities say was traveling too fast, crossed to the opposite side of the road and crashed into the truck, instantly catching fire. Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country with some 206 million people, has a history of devastating accidents.
In fact, this same Thursday the authorities have reported that at least ten people died on Wednesday due to the sinking of a boat in the Niger River as it passed through the Nigerian town of Samanaji, located in the northwest of the country.
