Armenia accuses Azerbaijan of firing at "combat positions" on the common border

Nov. 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of Armenia has accused the Azerbaijani Army on Monday of firing at “combat positions” in the border area, an event that has ended without victims, after the ceasefire reached on September 15 after their last clashes.

The Armenian Ministry of Defense has stressed in a statement published on its website that “on the night of November 6-7, units of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan have opened fire with weapons of different calibers against Armenian combat positions in the area eastern border”.

“There are no victims on the Armenian side. At 8:00 a.m. (local time), the situation in the border area is relatively stable,” he said, without the Baku authorities having commented on what happened at the moment. In recent weeks, both countries have exchanged accusations about incidents on the border.

Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to a ceasefire on September 15 and in early October they agreed to commit to the UN Charter and the 1991 Declaration of Alma Ata, through which both countries recognize the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the other . After that, the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinián, stressed before Parliament that he hopes that the peace treaty with Azerbaijan will be signed before the end of the year.

Both countries have staged various clashes in recent years over control of Nagorno-Karabakh, a territory with a majority Armenian population that has been the focus of conflict since it decided to separate in 1988 from the Azerbaijan region integrated into the Soviet Union.
