Recently, IGN had the opportunity to speak with members of EA Sports about the release of EA SPORTS FC 24. One of the topics they touched on was mixed soccer in the Ultimate Team mode of this soccer installment.

In the talk, John Shepherd, executive producer of EA, acknowledged that they considered that there would be inconvenience for presenting mixed soccer in Ultimate Team. That said, he recalled that it is a mode that seeks to create fantasy teams and that featuring women’s soccer in it can have a positive impact on the growth of the sport.
“It’s something we really thought about deeply. We feel that we can play a very important role in the growth of the sport by introducing it to all my fans. We have this conviction that we believe we want to unite the world through soccer,” Shepherd said. “Ultimate Team is a place for that. It’s a mode where you can create your fantasy team with different nationalities, different leagues, different clubs and I think it’s a great point to be able to do that.”

According to the executive, the objective of EA SPORTS FC is to unite “billions” of fans through soccer. This is why they want it to be an ecosystem that welcomes anyone who enjoys soccer. This is why they decided to integrate women’s soccer into Ultimate Team.
Later, he pointed out that those looking for an experience closer to the football we see on television can have some fun with Kickoff, a modality that presents the virtual version of real teams.
“There are other game modes, like Kickoff, where it’s more about that club playing together against another club. But Ultimate Team for us is a mode where you can have a mix of players and you can build the best team. And we think that’s going to be great for football, and we think that’s going to be great for our fans and our future fans. That’s what I would say.”

For his part, Sam Rivera, senior producer of EA SPORTS FC 24He recalled that Ultimate Team has spent years with fantasy elements: “Ultimate Team is a fantasy mode. You don’t see Mbappé playing with all the Icons. It’s Ultimate Team: fantasy football is what happens there.”
