Arab League countries agree to form ‘contact group’ for Sudan

The countries of the Arab League have agreed on Sunday to create a “contact group” on Sudan, to advance efforts to end the conflict that has affected the African country for weeks.

As confirmed by the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Samé Shukri, this decision responds to the need for Arab countries to take immediate and effective measures, according to the Egyptian state newspaper ‘Al Ahram’.

The group will be made up of envoys from Egypt and Saudi Arabia, another great mediator in the conflict and whose authorities have spoken on several occasions with both sides, and the League’s secretary general, Ahmed Abul Gheit, will also be part of it.

The situation in Sudan has affected neighboring countries, especially Egypt, which, according to the minister, has evacuated 4,000 people from third countries from the territory in conflict.

The country has been plunged into fighting between the Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 15, without until now the agreements announced for various ceasefires have been transferred to an end to the hostilities, which They have left hundreds dead and tens of thousands of internally displaced persons and refugees in the countries of the region.
