Apple Intelligence comes to iPhone, iPad and Mac: features, availability and languages

Oct. 28 (Portlatic/EP) –

The first Apple Intelligence features for iPhone, iPad and Mac users are now available via a free software update with the release of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1, but first for US English.

Users can now use the company’s personal smart system to enhance their texts, summarize notifications, emails and messages, interact with Siri more naturally and effectively, remove elements in photos with Clean, among other functions.

“Apple Intelligence is the result of years of innovation in artificial intelligence and machine learning to integrate Apple’s generative models at the core of our products, offering users an easy-to-use personal intelligence system, while protecting their privacy,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook in a press release.

WRITING TOOLS

Apple Intelligence introduces ‘Writing Tools,’ a set of features designed to let users refine their writing with options to rewrite, revise, and summarize in nearly every field where they write, including Mail, Messages, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps. .

With the ‘Rewrite’ feature, users can choose between different versions of their text and adjust the tone (professional, concise or informal) to suit the purpose and audience.

The ‘Review’ tool, meanwhile, checks grammar, vocabulary and sentence structure, as well as suggesting changes along with an explanation so users can quickly review or accept them. Users will also be able to select text and summarize it in an easy-to-read paragraph, table, or bulleted and non-bulletized list.

A MORE NATURAL AND FLUID SIRI

Siri has a new design with a flash that extends around the edge of the screen when activated on iPhone, iPad or CarPlay. On the Mac, users can pin Siri anywhere on the desktop for quick access while they work.

Users can also text Siri whenever they want on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and switch from text to speech to streamline everyday tasks. The assistant now has a greater understanding of the language, allowing them to maintain the context from one request to the next and still understand the instructions.

Siri can also answer thousands of questions about the features and settings of Apple products, helping users easily learn everything from how to record their screen to how to share their WiFi password.

THE ‘APP’ PHOTOS

The Photos app adds new capabilities, such as natural language search, which allows users to find the photos and videos they want by simply describing them. Plus, search offers smart suggestions to complete your queries.

Two tools have also been added: with ‘Clean’ you can remove an object or person from a photo scene, while with ‘Memories’ you can create videos by simply writing a description.

PRIORITIZE AND MAINTAIN FOCUS

Apple Intelligence also allows you to keep your emails organized with ‘Priority Messages’, a new section at the top of Mail that shows urgent ’emails’, such as invitations or boarding passes for that same day.

Summaries will be displayed throughout the mailbox without having to open a message. And if conversations are long, ‘Summarize’ will show important details. In addition, ‘Smart Reply’ offers instant response suggestions and detects questions in emails so that nothing is left unanswered.

Added to this are notification summaries, which show key information from long or grouped notifications on the lock screen. And ‘Reduce Interruptions’, a new focus mode that only shows notifications that require immediate attention.

Users can also record, transcribe and summarize audio messages in the Notes and Phone apps.

PRIVACY PROTECTIONS

Apple has emphasized that Apple Intelligence uses on-device processing, meaning that many of the models that make it possible run entirely on the device. And in the event that a request requires more processing power, ‘Private Cloud Computing’, user information is never stored or shared with Apple, and is only used to make your requests.

Additionally, the technology firm remembers that users can decide whether or not they want to activate the integration with ChatGPT, which is available when using Siri, Writing Tools or the visual intelligence of Camera Control.

Apple Intelligence is compatible with iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad with A17 Pro chip, M1 or later, and Mac with M1 chip or later.

The first features are now available as a free software update with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1, and will be available in most regions with Siri and device language set to US English.

Apple Intelligence is also available to EU Mac users in US English with macOS Sequoia 15.1. It will be in spring when the features of this intelligent system will begin to be available to users in the European Union on the iPhone and iPad.

Apple Intelligence is adding support for other languages.
