As noted by the company, Apple Intelligence will be able to offer suggestions to correct or paraphrase texts, offering style suggestions in its own and third-party applications to improve documents and emails (during the demonstration, Apple has turned an invitation into a poem to offer a look at its capabilities), generate reaction images and custom emojis (Genmojis) on platforms like iMessage and work with the operating system itself, so that commands like “play that audio you sent me [contacto]”have an immediate response.
These features will, of course, also be integrated into Siri to improve its operation. During the demonstration, an Apple executive asked to be reminded what time her mother arrived at the airport and the AI was responsible for responding based on her previous communications. Likewise, Siri will be able to remind the user of information such as passwords or license plates by inspecting their image gallery.
For Apple Intelligence to provide sufficient accuracy in its responses and actions, it must be fully integrated with user content. This means that it will access, for example, the user’s SMS messages or emails, their photo gallery, etc. However, most of the processing will be done locally without actually saving a record per se, thus protecting user privacy. When it is necessary to delegate these functions to the cloud, Apple will use a “Private Cloud” inaccessible to the company itself and audited by independent experts to guarantee its inviolability.
Likewise, Apple will allow the use of external chatbots in case the results offered by its own AI are not satisfactory enough for the user. The firm led by Tim Cook has made public an agreement with OpenAI through which Siri will be able to access ChatGPT 4.0 (in Apple’s words, the best existing chatbot) from this year, with the promise that support will be added later for other AI models.
Apple Intelligence will be available this fall in beta for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, but initially only in United States English. Other languages yet to be defined will be added throughout 2025. The hardware requirements are as follows:
- iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro/iPhone 15 Pro Max or later
- iPad: M1 processor or later
- Mac: M1 processor or later
