An Israeli Intelligence report warned before October 7 of Hamas preparations for an attack

The document reflects training for an assault against military bases in Israel, including the kidnapping of “between 200 and 250 people”

June 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –

A report prepared by the Israeli Intelligence services weeks before the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions included the preparations of these groups for an assault and the plans for the kidnapping of ” between 200 and 250 people” during it, as reported by the Israeli public broadcaster, Kan.

The document, written about two weeks before the assault by the Gaza Division of the Israeli Army, would have been known by the leadership of the Intelligence services, according to security sources cited by this medium, who have added that the report was distributed on September 19, 2023, three weeks before the attacks.

Thus, it reflects the training carried out by elite Hamas units that included practices on attacks against military positions and kibbutzim in Israeli territory, the kidnapping of soldiers and civilians and even instructions on the conditions in which they should be held once they were taken by the assailants back to the Gaza Strip.

The document states that the armed wing of Hamas, the Ezzeldin al Qassam Brigades, carried out these maneuvers, even simulating attacks against a military post built inside the enclave that simulated those existing in Israeli territory, including activities assigned to four companies of the training.

In this way, the Israeli Intelligence agents who analyzed the maneuvers indicated that the next steps would be to assault Israeli territory to take control of these posts and kidnap “between 200 and 250 people.” The authorities confirmed about 250 kidnapped during the October 7 attacks, which also left about 1,200 dead.

Those in charge of collecting the intelligence information highlighted that the militiamen received orders to attack the bases and control offices, the synagogues and the headquarters of the squads, taking possession of the documents that were in the facilities for delivery to the leadership of the arm. armed Hamas.

The document also points out that the most extreme scenario contemplated was that dozens of militiamen broke through the security fence through three points, far below the nearly 3,000 who were estimated to have managed to penetrate Israel through 30 zones, including the use of paratroopers.

The Government of Israel, which has promised on several occasions that there will be an investigation into the security failures that allowed the attacks, has not yet commented on this information. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stressed on several occasions that the investigations should take place after the end of the conflict.

For its part, the Army has declined to comment on this information, although it has said that it is investigating the attacks, after announcing last week that it will begin to present part of the conclusions of its investigations into security failures in July, a investigation that addresses the period between March 2018, when riots broke out at the border fence, and October 10, 2023, when the recovery of border control was announced.

The Israeli Army launched an offensive against the Gaza Strip after the aforementioned attacks on October 7. The Gazan authorities, controlled by Hamas, have so far reported more than 37,300 deaths and nearly 85,500 injuries, to which are added more than 520 Palestinians killed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem at the hands of Israeli forces or in attacks by settlers. .
