An alleged member of the Islamic State who was planning an attack was arrested in Morocco

The Moroccan authorities announced this Friday the arrest of an alleged member of the Islamic State jihadist group in the framework of an operation carried out on Wednesday in the town of Taurirt (northeast) that resulted in the seizure of chemical materials that could be used for the manufacture of explosive devices.

The suspect, who worked as a teacher in the town of Sidi Chafi, has been arrested based on information provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), within the framework of efforts to confront the terrorist threat, according to reported by the Moroccan state news agency, MAP.

The Central Office of Judicial Investigations (OCIJ) has specified that the materials seized during the search of the detainee’s home include hydrochloric acid, hydrogen peroxide and zinc sulfate, as well as knives of various sizes, mobile phones and electronic media.

Thus, he stressed that the investigation has made it possible to determine that the man had collected information with the aim of manufacturing improvised explosives in order to “severely threaten the safety of people and public order”, without for now there being details about possible objectives. .
