A influencer Algerian resident in France was arrested and sentenced to eight months in prison for “apology of terrosimo” through their social media accounts, as announced by the French Government this Friday.
The French Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleauhas stated that the man, identified as Mahdi B., was arrested on January 13 accused of “apology for terrosism” for a series of publications made on the Pharos platform. The individual showed “the will to commit violent acts on French territory.”
After his arrest, the minister specified that the man was subjected to a quick trial after his arrest and revealed that he was “sentenced to eight months in prison and imprisoned.” “Don’t let anything happen,” Retailleau concluded.
The conviction against this Algerian influencer comes precisely in the midst of diplomatic tensions between Algeria and France due to Western Sahara and the arrest of the French-Algerian writer Boualem Sansal, imprisoned in Algeria since November 2024.
In this context, Retailleau himself denounced last week that “Algeria seeks to humiliate France” by stopping the deportation of a influencer of Algerian nationality who was arrested after encouraging the commission of violent acts by a protester against the Algerian president, Abdelmayid Tebune, on the social network TikTok.
The French authorities proceeded to transfer him to Algeria on Thursday, but were forced to transfer him back again due to the local veto. Afterwards, the French Interior Minister pointed out that bilateral relations are “at an extremely worrying point.”
