NVIDIA’s DLSS 3.5 brought ray reconstruction technology to increase the performance and quality of games with Raytracing. Using Artificial Intelligence, compatible NVIDIA GPUs were able to “rebuild” the ray tracing lighting system, achieving greater quality and performance.
Nowadays, graphics cards from NVIDIA or AMD, even including an RTX 4090, are not capable of moving games with a large number of rays in raytracing, so more limited sets of rays are used that generate a very noisy image. Therefore, techniques are necessary to eliminate noise that is generated when using a limited amount of rays for lighting effects. One of them is DLSS 3.5.
Until now, AMD did not have its own similar technology, but through its platform GPUOpenhave shown the foundations of what they call “Neural Supersampling and Denoising for real-time path tracing“.
This technology makes use of Artificial Intelligence to improve the quality of images generated with a limited number of “rays” and also applies rescaling, so it would be something similar to DLSS 3.5 but with a free license and compatible with GPUs. RDNA architecture.
We will have to wait, possibly, for the arrival of FSR 4 or some advanced version to be able to try it.
