How does Amazon’s Rufus chatbot work?
The company claims that the chatbot is capable of answering “tens of millions of questions” about products within the platform, as it was trained with the entire catalog of available products.
In addition, reviews from other users, questions and answers from the shopping community, as well as other publicly available information on the Internet have been taken into account, although the company did not specifically reveal what data and from which sites they use for recommendations.
Amazon’s Large Language Model (LLM) was developed in-house with a special focus on the shopping sector, so customers can ask specific questions about which product is best for them.
For example, questions include what is the best product according to the needs of the user or how well the product performs or how long its quality lasts, according to the opinions of other people and data on the web.
It is also possible to ask general questions about a category, such as “what should be taken into account when buying headphones?” or “what are the best accessories for playing soccer in a rainy climate?” Even if the user wants to start a project, Rufus will also provide recommendations.
By being able to obtain information from fields other than shopping, Rufus can also provide information about fashion or technology trends so that people are aware of the latest products in these areas.
However, it still has some flaws, such as answering questions that users did not ask or even providing limited information about products.
