Amazon today announced another new round of mass layoffs which has affected another 9,000 people within the company, something that this time has not been limited simply to Amazon as such, as in the last round of layoffs, but on this occasion the AWS and Twitch teams have also been touched.
Just a few months ago, Amazon laid off 18,000 people in a wave of layoffs that has spread throughout the technology industry, but with this new round of layoffs – which brings the total affected to 27,000 –Amazon becomes the technology company with the most layoffs so far, leaving behind the possibility of some workers returning.
Supposedly, as we read in TechCrunchthe reason why these layoffs are being done in stages is because the heads of each department are evaluating their operation separately and they were not ready to provide a verdict in the first stagewhich is why more sectors have been affected in this second round.
Likewise, a possible third round of dismissals is not ruled out taking into account this argument of the evaluation of departments, but nothing like this has really been confirmed or denied, so this is just conjecture.
