Amazon announces the largest technological investment in Spain with 15.7 billion to expand its AWS data centers

AWS, or Amazon Web Services, has announced an investment of 15.7 billion euros to expand its server infrastructure in our country, being the largest technological investment in Spain and part of Europe.

Specifically, this money will focus on improving and creating new data centers and servers in the Aragon region between this year 2024 and the next 9 years, until 2033. The good availability in the autonomous community for land and water sources necessary to cool these huge data centers has been one of the main reasons for choosing this area to receive the investment. However, the company has committed that by 2030 they will be able to have positive water consumption, which means that they will return more water to the environment than is used. On the other hand, currently 100% of the energy used is compensated with renewables.

With this investment, the North American company hopes to create almost 7,000 new jobs in the region between this year and 2033. It is estimated that this investment will contribute 21.6 billion euros to the country’s GDP during this period.

Currently, Amazon has already had data centers in the region for just over a year, so the expansion will take place around them, taking advantage of the infrastructure already created.
