Alone in the Dark will arrive on October 25 with David Harbor and Jodie Comer as protagonists; prologue now available

Alone in the Dark, one of the horror and survival sagas that laid the foundations of the genre, will come back to life with a “reinvention” of the first installment for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC (Steam and GOG) that will be available the sale on October 25 for 59.99 euros. Those who do not want to wait for the release date can now stop by the PS StoreMicrosoft Store or Steam and a free download of a standalone playable prologue called Grace in the Dark, which has been described by publisher THQ Nordic as a “playable environmental breakthrough.”

The reinvention of Alone in the Dark developed by Pieces Interactive maintains its commitment to psychological terror and survival, as well as its gothic setting that takes us to the deep south of the 1920s. The Dark Man torments Jeremy Hartwood, for which he decides go to a field hospital called Derceto to get help. Jeremy sends a disturbing letter to Emily Hartwood (Jodie Comer), his niece. What she reads scares her and she hires private detective Edward Carnby (David Harbour) to find out what’s going on.

When they arrive at Derceto, a home for the mentally ill, they soon realize that something mysterious is looming over the mansion. There they will encounter “strange residents, nightmarish kingdoms, dangerous monsters, and ultimately uncover a plot of intense evil,” the synopsis reads. “At the intersection of reality, mystery and madness, an adventure awaits you that will challenge your most intimate beliefs. Who can you trust, what will you believe, and what will you do next?”

Pieces Interactive focuses the Alone in the Dark story on the characters, so they decided to hire actors to faithfully represent them in the game. That’s where David Harbor (Stranger Things) and Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) come in. Edward is a slightly dry detective, a seasoned man who has his funny moments, while Emily maintains a more relevant connection to the plot and, like her uncle, suffers a mysterious misfortune called the “Hartwood curse”. Both characters are playable and the inhabitants of Derceto will react differently depending on who is played as. Even the story will vary a little.

Players who have played the original Alone in the Dark released in 1992 will discover several references. Frédérick Raynal, the creator of the franchise, is not directly involved in the reimagining, but he is aware of Pieces Interactive’s progress. In it spot light published by THQ Nordic has been pleased with the work of the Swedish team in preserving the details of the game and “even going beyond what I could have imagined 30 years ago.”

Both Raynal and the rest of the players can already discover what the revamped Alone in the Dark will be like with a prologue that introduces a character named Grace Saunders. This girl is the one Jeremy asks for help getting a letter to her niece Emily and in the prologue players can control her and wander around Derceto while trying to send the epistle.
