Since its premiere in 2002, The academythe reality show produced by TV Azteca, became a crucial platform for discovering and catapulting new musical talents in Latin America. In addition to its focus on music, it offered extravagant moments that are still remembered by the audience today.
One of which was when Alizée participated in one of the concerts of the Academy of the generation 2011. At that time the famous French singer continued to promote her fourth studio album, A child of the century (2010).
In the show’s format, aspiring singers were evaluated weekly at a concert by a panel of judges and by public vote. For 3 hours and 30 minutes, the artists in training sang and danced. It was during one of these broadcasts that the stage of The Academy welcomed Alizéewho performed his worldwide hit and now classic song, “I’m dead”.
The dancer originally from France, sang accompanied by the contestant Javier “Javi” Baerga Schroederwho sang some backing vocals for Alizée’s song at the time. Likewise, all the students performed their musical number inspired by the singer.
Magda Rodríguez, the producer of the reality show at that time, was the one who announced the Princess of French Pop and what they had prepared for that Sunday of concert. “We will put on an `opening´, all dressed in Alizée and doing cool things,” he commented to the media back in 2011.
Alizée is a French singer who rose to fame in 2000 after winning a television talent show. Her single “Moi… Lolita” became a huge success and catapulted her to international fame. Throughout her career she released a total of six studio albums: Gourmandises (2000), My electric currents (2003)Psychedelics (2007), A child of the century (2010), 5 (2013) and Blonde (2014).
Since her last full-length album, Alizée has kept her distance from the stage in terms of music. Currently, she has a dance school, which she runs with her husband Grégoire Lyonnet. And although she has ruled out a new album on several occasions, the French singer remained firm in her idea of returning to the stage. She did so, as she recently performed a concert and announced a special show in The Olympia of Paris on September 7, 2025 to celebrate its 25 years of history.
