At least ten soldiers have died and thirty have been injured, including a civilian, after a supply convoy was attacked by armed men this Monday in Burkina Faso.
The convoy, which was being escorted by the country’s Army, would have been the target of an attack on a road near the town of Gaskindé, about twenty kilometers from Djibo, in the north of the country, according to the Radio France station. International (RFI).
“It is an ambush by terrorists,” a security source told the aforementioned RFI. Another source explained that “a large number of terrorists, operating on foot and on motorcycles, attacked the front and rear of the convoy with heavy firepower.”
Likewise, the incident has also caused the destruction of several trucks that were transporting food.
The leader of the Burkina Faso military junta, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, warned before the 77th United Nations General Assembly that terrorism in the region “jeopardizes” international peace and security, since “no measure” can prevent terrorism from spreading if the Sahel is left alone.
