A woman and her five children are killed by a grenade explosion in central Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, 20 March. (DPA/EP) –

A woman and her five children have died from the explosion of a grenade in the Afghan province of Ghor, located in the center of the country, according to local authorities.

The incident took place on Sunday in the city of Firozkó, when the minors were playing with a grenade that they had found inside their home, explained the head of information in the regional government, Abdulhai Zaeem, in statements to the DPA agency.

On Friday, two other children were killed when they were blasted by a mortar shell while searching for firewood in Logar province. Unexploded ordnance has caused numerous civilian casualties in Afghanistan and the UN repeatedly warns of the risk it poses, especially to children.
