A ship breaks down in the Suez Canal and is "successfully" refloated without affecting maritime traffic

Feb. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The head of the Suez Canal Authority, Osama Rabie, reported this Wednesday that a liquefied natural gas vessel, the Grace Emilia, flying the Bahamas flag, has suffered a breakdown without affecting maritime traffic in Egypt, being later refloated.

Rabie has specified that the ship “experienced a malfunction” in its direction, suffering a breakdown, for which it was transferred to the side of the canal, allowing the rest of the vessels to pass, as reported by Ahram Online.

The incident has also been confirmed by the channel’s service provider, Leth Agencies, which has reported on its Twitter profile that, after the breakdown, the Grace Emilia ship has been “successfully” refloated.

On January 9, a cargo ship was also stranded in the Suez Canal without generating traffic interruptions on this important waterway. The ship, the MV Glory, ran aground near El Qantara, in the Egyptian state of Ismailia, as she headed south.

The stranding of the ‘Ever Given’, 400 meters long and 59 meters wide, which was carrying 224,000 tons of merchandise, caused a traffic jam in 2021 that caused a paralysis of goods worth 9,500 million euros per day.
