The Royal Spanish Automobile Federation (RFEDA) has almost 30,000 licences in Spain and a budget of more than 10 million euros. It organises races and events in Montmeló, the Jerez circuit and the Ricardo Tormo circuit. It is now facing a territorial conflict due to its poor relationship with, among others, the Basque federation, which it has unilaterally “disintegrated”. This leaves out hundreds of Basque drivers who, if they want to compete in national competitions, have to pay an extra 350 euros to obtain a national licence, in addition to the regional one.
With presidential elections on 14 October and this conflict in the background, the Basque federation has filed a complaint that has just been admitted for processing by a court of instruction in Madrid against the Higher Council of Sports (CSD, a public body dependent on the Government) for ignoring seven written complaints about the situation and not having intervened to prevent the disintegration from taking place or being reversed.
