A new collection of credentials stolen in various leaks and attacks has appeared online, totalling a whopping 9.9 billion passwords. This represents the largest leak in history and a new challenge to user security.

This list, referred to as RockYou2024offers nothing more and nothing less than 9,948,575,739 passwords and associated accounts in text formatThis is the latest edition of a compilation with several editions behind it. In 2021, the RockYou2021 file already included 8.4 billion credentials.

Although many of the leaked passwords were obtained from previous attacks and security breaches, so they were already leaked some time ago, it is always advisable to change passwords periodically and try not to repeat passwords on different services, especially if the username or associated email account is the same.

In recent months we have seen various attacks that have affected companies of all kinds such as Telefonica, Santander or Iberdrola, leaving customer and user data exposed. All you have to do is be a customer of one of these companies and use the same email-password for other services so that attackers can also access them.
