The Basque elections have confirmed that the State in Spain is beginning to run out of territory, which is a singularity that our neighbors do not enjoy. All States, except those that are at war or enjoying a pleasant chaos, have their territory where they can collect taxes, administer justice or simply give their citizens a hard time.
Spain has had its own territory but no one can escape the fact that, since last Sunday, it appears that one of them, in which the Basque people live, is beginning to say goodbye to those who have oppressed them throughout the centuries although , making a hard sacrifice, will not give up continuing to obtain benefits of the oppressor, if possible contained in succulent budget lines.
If, in fact, Spain, your State, runs out of territory in a few years, we can republish what a 13th century romance said, included in the pages of Don Quixote:
“…Yesterday he was king of Spain
Today I am not from a town;
yesterday, villas and castles,
today, none owned;
yesterday I had servants
and people who served me;
today I don’t have a battlement
that I can say that it is mine…”
Looked at closely, a State with its territory is a nonsense that also has little historical pedigree since the feudal system lasted the longest, characterized by the fact that the nobleman or the bishop, in dispute with whoever was necessary, enjoyed privileges earned on the back of a horse on the battlefield.
Spain has had its own territory but no one can escape the fact that, since last Sunday, it appears that one of them, in which the Basque people live, is beginning to say goodbye to those who have oppressed them throughout the centuries.
Returning to the Middle Ages has its and there is the work of Umberto Eco as testimony.
The State loses what is annoying and austere, determined as it usually is to have officials, guards, judges and prosecutors and even tax inspectors, a fearsome avalanche very annoying due to the propensity of such individuals to get involved in private matters and dare to to reveal dirty laundry.
Welcome canongies
Of the State, only what is affectionate should be preserved, so it will always be well received when it distributes income, subsidies and subsidies, funds from Europe populated by heretics and other welcome canonries.
The modern leaders of the Basque territory dedicate their efforts to this patriotic endeavor, nostalgic for the laws and the old charters in whose bowels the immaculate essences slumber. It is about reviving them to contribute to Progress.
The State, let us not forget, is the leviathan, a sea beast. Therefore, the State, gradually stripped of its territory, will remain a harmless product of superstitions.
The State as a stump of a body that was.
The State as a stump of the tree that was.
