The president of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, has announced a remodeling of the leadership of the security forces that includes changes at the head of the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the Police, given the increase in insecurity due to attacks by jihadist groups and armed criminal gangs.
Tinubu has approved “the immediate withdrawal of all the heads of service and the general inspector of the Police, the advisers and the director of Customs (…) with immediate effect,” according to a statement published by the information director of the office president before the Government, Willie Bassey.
Thus, he has appointed Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as adviser for National Security, while Christopher Gwabin Musa will be the head of the Armed Forces. Likewise, Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja will be the new head of the Army, while Ikechukwu Ogalla will head the Navy and Hassan Bala Abubakar will head the Air Force.
Tinubu has also appointed Kayode Egbetoukun as Police Inspector General and Emmanuel Parker Akomaye Undiandeye as head of the Intelligence services, while he has replaced the commanders of several battalions in various states of the country, according to the Nigerian newspaper ‘ Daily Post’.
The changes come about two weeks after the new president met with the leadership of the security forces and asked the leaders of these organizations to work together to deal with terrorism, insecurity and piracy, among other issues. .
Northeast Nigeria is the scene of frequent attacks by Boko Haram and its splinter group, the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA).
