The US sees the launch of a satellite by North Korea as a "violation" of UN resolutions

May 30. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The United States authorities have warned this Tuesday that the imminent launch by North Korea of a satellite will suppose a “violation” of the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, which prohibits the country from carrying out long-range ballistic tests.

The State Department of the North American country has indicated that any launch by South Korea that makes use of “ballistic technology, something that would occur in the event of launching a satellite into space, violates multiple UN resolutions.”

“Launches of this type incorporate technologies identical to those used in ballistic missiles, including intercontinental missiles,” a spokesman for the department told the Yonhap news agency.

“We ask South Korea to avoid illegal activities and request that it commit to the principles of diplomacy,” he said.

His words come after the Japanese government was notified of Pyongyang’s plans to launch the satellite in June. The launch comes after an unprecedented number of ballistic tests by North Korea, which has carried out 69 such tests in 2022.
